The Mandvo 

The mandvo is an annual event that takes place every year in the month of Chaitra Navratri in March/April. The mandvo is located in  Amreli (Babra), Gujarat, India.

Over the years the mandvo has expanded from a small gathering of family members to be open to the community and public, throughout the years' devotees have come from local towns and in recent years devotees have been travelling from different cities, different parts of India, and even from around the world as far as the United States Of America, as well as the mandir becoming the central point of Babar the mandvo has also become a central event

 

In 2012 Mother gave her blessings in the form of a snake and over the years as people have been visiting the mandir the more mother has given her blessings, in 2018 in the mandvo mother came in the form of a snake and give her blessing it was was caught on live on the tv, not only in the mandvo did mother appear but also in the month of shiva (Shravan mass or also known as the month of Shiva). 

On the first day of the mandvo the committee members, volunteers and local community gather outside on the streets and make their way up to the Meldi maa temple by foot, as they make their /way up to the temple dancing and traditional music are in play when they reach they pray and start the mandvo off first by chanting mothers and the lord's name. The Mandvo continues throughout the night for 24 hours.  

What is the significance of the Mandvo?
The mandvo is a celebration to appreciate mother and the lord. The mandvo is celebrated through singing devotional hymns, chanting, and playing an instrument called a Dak. A Dak is a waisted drum of the damaru. The Dakla is traditionally found in the Gujarat area also found in the northwest of India such as Delhi, Rajasthan, and in the Punjab (just to name a few.)

 Anyone is welcome to come to this festival if you would like you can bring offerings to be blessed.
